Pigeon and the Crow:
An Illustrated modern folktale set in the foggy central Californian coast; song depicted via graphic novella.
Pigeon and the Crow is a collaboration between Illustrator Mike Bencze and songwriter Nels Andrews bringing together their worlds of sound and image. brought to you in part by the Arts Council Santa Cruz County.
The project is a fictionalized telling of the true story of a young girl who fed a crow in her backyard and received gifts in return. Here, the relationship re-imagined as a love story, in the form of a supernatural ballad. It's also the first track of Nels' upcoming full length album.
Nels will perform songs from his upcoming album backed by talented full band, and Mike's artwork will be on display. Artwork, CD's, and featured graphic novella (with flexi-disc of the single included!) all available for purchase.

As the final mixing comes together for the new album, I'm pleased to announce that, thanks to a Grant from SC arts council, I'll be collaborating with artist/illustrator Mike Bencze on a Graphic Novella based on one of the songs from the upcoming album to be released as a multimedia single in the next year.. whoop!
The new album's coming together beautifully, as the tracks make their transatlantic passages to include the host of international musicians involved.
Here's a teaser of one of the new tunes. "South of San Gregorio" recorded in a cave in the Santa Cruz mountains w/ Dorota Szuta on violin:
